From Floods to Fences: How a Village Turned Chaos Into Care

In December, the usually calm Crocodile River flooded, wrecking the pump house and the toilets.

With the river on one side and a sewage pit on the other, we had over 300 children to protect. So we rolled up our sleeves and said, “Right, let’s sort this out.”

What followed was a four‑month adventure in logistics, patience, and the mysterious art of finding the right gate. Poles? Sorted. Fencing? Eventually. The gate? Let’s just say it took negotiations worthy of a UN peace summit.

But today, the 150‑metre safety fence stands tall — strong, secure, and keeping every child safely away from danger.

Today, more than 300 children are able to move around the property safely.
